Laredo, Texas, is located on the north bank of the historical Rio Grande River (or Rio Bravo, as it is known in Mexico). It is unique because it is the only city to operate international bridges between two Mexican states. The city presently maintains two border crossings with the Mexican State of Tamaulipas at Nuevo Laredo, and one with the Mexican State of Nuevo León at Colombia. A fourth bridge is currently being planned along the Tamualipas border. Laredo is a principal U.S. port of entry into Mexico, and is located on the Pan American Highway that stretches from Canada into Central and South America. The City of Laredo is the largest city in the County of Webb. Webb County also borders the State of Nuevo Leon and the State of Coahuila, Mexico which is northwest of the City of Laredo. Spring temperatures for the City of Laredo average 89ºF maximum and 54ºF minimum; Summer temperatures average 98ºF maximum and 73ºF minimum; Fall temperatures average 95ºF maximum and 70ºF minimum; Winter temperatures average 71ºF maximum and 46ºF minimum. On average, there are 179 days out of the year that exceed 90ºF, and 14 days that fall below 32ºF. The average annual precipitation is 19 inches, and the average humidity is 62%. Laredo encompasses 50,826.42 acres of land, which equals 79.42 square miles. This represents a 213.27% increase in total land size since 1991. Laredo is near by big metropolitan areas such as San Antonio, Corpus Christi, as well as other cities such as Cotulla, Zapata, Rio Grande City, Oilton, Hebronville, Encinal, Carrizo Springs, and Eagle Pass. |
